I have a new (I month old) pavillion dv6 notebook, and it takes an unreasonably long time to attach files to my emails. The internet connections are usually strong, but it takes at least 3-5 minutes to attach photo files.

The Open With dialog box is used to open a file with a specific program. The first thing to do is remove the check mark by the option Always Use the Selected Program to Open This Kind of File. When you fail to do so, you perform the process of file association, which probably isn’t wise to do at this point.

So, for some MP4 videos, it seems as though nothing is happening – but in fact the file is downloading and will start just as soon as the player information gets through! We have found a solution to move the metadata for MP4 files , if you are using this format.

The Open With dialog box is used to open a file with a specific program. The first thing to do is remove the check mark by the option Always Use the Selected Program to Open This Kind of File. When you fail to do so, you perform the process of file association, which probably isn’t wise to do at this point.

Another way to quickly zip some files is to highlight them, right-click and hit Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. The easiest way to unzip a file is to right-click on it and press Extract All. So, for some MP4 videos, it seems as though nothing is happening – but in fact the file is downloading and will start just as soon as the player information gets through! We have found a solution to move the metadata for MP4 files , if you are using this format.

If so, open the source before trying to opening the file. Even better. If the source data is static and you don’t need the link, break the link to reduce the size of the file and to speed up the opening.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do realize your post is a bit “long in the tooth”. It’s interesting to me that my Word 2010 can indeed open old WP files, even ones composed on WP for DOS and ones without an explicit .WP extension (my older Word 2001–or so–would not).
